2018 Someone(s) Special

We have so many wonderful volunteers that it is difficult for us to acknowledge just one or two. Every year, through United Way of Bemidji Area, we are given the opportunity to recognize two volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to our work. This year’s Someone Special awards go to volunteers Gerry Cardinal and Janice Lund.

Gerry gleans on Mondays and also takes our van and trailer to pick up food from our Food Bank in Crookston most Wednesdays. In addition, he sheetrocked the Deep Winter Greenhouse and is willing to take on most any job.

Janice is here every day, and is a shelf-stocking dynamo. She has also tracked birthdays for staff and key volunteers and has provided cakes and cards. Janice is ready to shift gears with a moment’s notice and we so appreciate her flexibility and hard work.

We are so grateful for both of them!

Big River Scoop Flavor of the Month

Great News! Bemidji Community Food Shelf is the Big River Scoop May 2018 Flavor of the Month Recipient! At the end of May, a donation will be made to BCFS based on the number of Munchie Madness purchases. Munchie Madness is described as: “Sweet cake batter ice cream swirled with a salted caramel ripple and brimming with Oreos, M&M pieces and peanut butter cups.” What a yummy way to support your community!

Prospective Volunteer Open House 4/3/18

The community is welcome to attend an open house at 7pm at the Bemidji Community Food Shelf, located at 1260 Exchange Ave SE in the industrial park. The purpose of this event is to inform those interested in the work the organization does, as well as recruit new volunteers. There are many ways in which members of the community can support the food shelf, including seasonal farm work, interviewing customers, warehouse work, assisting customers shopping, cooking and serving sample meals, food rescue, and skills-based opportunities.

All are welcome to attend the open house, with those 12 and younger accompanied by an adult.

This event will take place at the Bemidji Community Food Shelf on Tuesday, April 3 from 7-8pm. Light refreshments will be provided in the conference room, which can be reached through the west facing doors marked “employees only”. All those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by Monday April 2 by calling the food shelf at 218-444-6480 or by emailing Emily at emily.bemidjifoodshelf@gmail.com.
